Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich was a Soviet-era Russian composer and pianist who became internationally known after the premiere of his First Symphony in 1926 and was regarded throughout his life as a major composer.

A world premiere: piano pieces by Shostakovich played on organ by Michiel Ras. He has won many first prizes at organ competitions in Ermelo, Lisse, Utrecht and Leiderdorp (cities in Holland).

The organ has been widely projected for the listener and with the help of back speakers the space and ambience of the church is not only audible, but one can feel it too. The low-frequency sounds of this recording are almost unreal, an entirely natural organ sound.
